Van Dam increases output with smart trigger capper from Altrimex

Van Dam Bodegraven has specialised in detergent packaging for over 90 years. What started as a small-scale family business has grown into a fully automated factory, where efficiency, reliability, and quality are key. These three elements came together in a recent project: the integration of a new Breitner trigger capper into an existing filling and sealing line.

Logistical and technical challenges

“We have been working with Altrimex for years, so it was the obvious choice to engage them again,” says Pascal Burghouwt, Plant Manager at Van Dam Bodegraven. “However, this was not a standard project.” The new trigger capper had to be integrated into an existing production line, within a facility where every square metre counts. The machine needed to both technically and physically fit within this limited space posing a significant challenge.

In addition to the spatial constraints, the product itself introduced specific requirements. Triggers contain a long riser tube that draws the product from the bottle. These components must be accurately sorted and supplied to the sealing machine without disruption. Thanks to a smart and efficient integration, the transition was seamless: the old capper was replaced by the new one with minimal downtime. This required thorough preparation and close cooperation between Van Dam and Altrimex.

Strong together under pressure

Although the machine was delivered on time, the installation presented unexpected technical challenges. Thanks to the thorough preparation and the direct involvement of all parties, issues were addressed quickly and effectively. Engineers were immediately available, solutions were implemented efficiently, and collaboration was strong throughout.

Measurable result

The new trigger capper is now fully operational in production and delivering clear results! Capacity has increased by approximately 20%, representing a significant improvement. Reliability has also improved noticeably, with fewer disruptions and higher sealing quality. “Continuity has improved, and we are clearly running more bottles per minute than before. That makes a real difference,” says Pascal.

A cooperation built on trust

Pascal describes the collaboration with Altrimex as realistic and solution-oriented. “Ultimately, it’s about having your challenges taken seriously and being able to rely on them being resolved. And that absolutely happened here.” He looks back on the project with confidence: “We did what was necessary, when it was needed and that builds trust.”

The result is a reliable and efficient machine, seamlessly integrated into the existing line, a strong example of how technical expertise, flexibility, and collaboration drive success.
